Tahitian pearls are nacreous saltwater cultured pearls produced by the black‑lipped oyster (Pinctada margaritifera). They are the only major pearl type that naturally forms with a dark body color, without any dye.
Found mainly around French Polynesia, in particular the Cook Islands and Tahiti.
The colors range from light to dark grey with overtones of aurbergine, pistachio. Reminiscent of a peacock's feathers.
The pearls generally range from 8.0- 16.0mm in size.
With so many variations on colors and shapes, we carry a range of strands in house and have numerous pearl merchants to source something to suit if necessary.
